Semi Formal Dress Code Etiquettes

Semi formal dress code is different from casual dress code. It is not as formal as an evening gown but still have a touch of glamour. This dress code is usually worn for parties, weddings, or dances. Some people still find it difficult to differentiate semi formal from formal or semi formal from formal. Women like to wear this dress code because it is flexible. There are some etiquette guidelines to dress semi formal in a proper way. Let’s start with the length of the dress. While most formal dresses are long, semi formal dress can either have long or short hemline but, no shorter than once inch above the knee otherwise it will be informal. Black cocktail dresses belong to this dress code. Another appropriate dress is a tea length dress. Alternatively, you can wear trousers or a long skirt combined with a dressy top.   

If you want to wear skirt or trousers, find a dressy top in light colors such as peach, light blue, or sage. The tops can be dressy sweaters or shirts. Darker colors like mauve, pink, or black can be used for a dinner party or an evening wedding. Choose long trousers in neutral and dark colors like black, gray, or blue. Make sure the hem reaches your ankles. Khakis, denims, cotton dresses, and jean skirts are not acceptable for semi formal occasions because they are too casual. Semi formal dress code should be made of high quality fabric such as velvet, polyester brocades, rayon, and cashmere. Avoid wool because this fabric is not elegant enough.

Semi formal dress code also includes the shoes you wear to complement your overall outfit. Select the right shoe based on the event you are attending. For a business dinner, the shoes are more a lot like formal shoes.  For other parties, you can wear shoes in bolder colors or those in prints to give a touch of glitz. It is also nice to wear shoes with rhinestones embelissment. Find high heels that match your outfit. They can be strappy sandals, peep toes, or kitten heels. Enhance your look by wearing some accessories. Keep them simple. Wear only one or two pieces. For examples you can wear a pair of fancy earrings and a pendant necklace. For a business occasion, you can also wear a dressy watch. Wear neutral makeup that go well with your skin tone and the color of your dress.
