The following is the personal opinion of the blog owner.
This content has been removed at the request of Jovani. The original content recommended their dresses and did not link out to any other site (the post(s) did have internal links to each other). However, Jovani was of the opinion that the recommendation constituted trademark infringement and also made an incorrect accusation that this site was either selling or linking to counterfeit products. It did not, and I find the accusation rather abhorrent. I am aware that companies sometimes hire third parties to find what they think are trademark issues, especially in relation to trying to find counterfeiters, and those can wrongly pull bloggers into their net. I suspect that is what happened here, since some of the material mentioned Jovani items on sale, but in relation to actual, not fake, Jovani items and without links to a retail site, but with internal links back to other posts. I can see an algorithm tagging that, although I don’t know the full circumstances. If that is the case, I understand where it came from, but still consider it a rather offensive accusation given hand checking algorithmic matches should not be very difficult in my opinion.
Jovani also expressed copyright concerns about photos used. As the content was provided by a site user from before I owned this site and I did not write it, I cannot speak to the accuracy of that. I do not know if the writer received the material via a PR pitch that would license its use, or if they simply grabbed photos from online, which would not. However, I note that it seems in my opinion like an incredibly idiotic marketing move to ask a blog to remove a positive review or positive coverage of a product. Most companies hire PR agents specifically to seek out such coverage since it is essentially free advertising. Looking through my email, I have found multiple PR pitches from various places mentioning Jovani. In fact I have one pitch dedicated solely to Jovani and providing multiple photos of celebrities wearing their products. Perhaps PR/Marking and Legal need to get together and talk to one another?
In any event, I have removed the content. I also no longer recommend Jovani dresses in any manner and, if I receive any future PR pitches for Jovani, I will either ignore them or inform the person why I won’t cover them . When I get the chance I will find some other items recommend instead of Jovani.
