Muslim wedding dresses are very popularly worn in some countries which the majority of people are Islam such as in Saudi Arabia, India, Indonesia, Egypt, etc. The dresses do not only reflect the religious aspect but also culture. Every country may have different design. But, basically the idea of Muslim clothing for women is just the same. It should cover all parts of body except face and palms. A few women are found to wear facial veil too. In some countries in the Middle East such as Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq, and Arab, Muslim wedding gowns usually come in white. It is different from those in India or China where commonly Muslim brides wear red dress. Not only the colors which are varied, but the designs too. In Arab, brides wear abaya in Islamic wedding. Abaya is a long piece of clothing made of loose garments. Traditionally, abaya comes in black or dark colors. Arabic women also wear abaya as every day wear. For a wedding they wear abaya in lighter color such as blue, pink, white, peach, and with some embellishments such as appliqué, bead, or lace.

In India, Pakistan and other South Asian countries, most of Muslim brides wear red traditional wedding dress. In India, for example, brides wear saree, a traditional clothing of Indian woman as Muslim wedding dresses. Of course saree is modified to suit Islamic culture. Originally, saree show off women’s belly. This is not allowed in Islam. In an Islamic wedding, saree is modified in such a way that it can cover the belly. Some brides leave their arms visible (this may be not allowed in other regions). In addition, brides also wear a head covering.

In other countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia, Muslim wedding dresses come in more creative design. As well as in India, in these Shout-east Asian countries, Muslim brides also combine local culture and Islamic value. They wear kebaya, a traditional clothing worn by women in Indonesia, Brunei, and Malaysia, combined with decorative veil which covers their head. Kebaya is a tight-fitting blouse-dress often made of lace and trimmed with beads, appliqués, etc. Usually it is paired with batik long skirt. In the last five years, brides in these countries have been interested with modern wedding gown in Western-inspired style. Muslim brides just add a head wrap as it is a necessity for Islamic women. The designs are getting more creative just like Western wedding dresses.
