Some people think that traditional wedding dresses are old-fashioned. In my opinion, the best word to describe it is not ‘old-fashioned’ but ‘classic’. I wore a traditional dress wedding and my family and guests gave positive comments on the dress. They said the dress was elegant and glamorous. Traditional wedding dress typically comes in white or ivory. The fabrics used to make the dress include satin, lace and other traditional fabrics. At my wedding I wore a wedding dress with ball gown silhouette. Actually there are many other types of wedding dresses which belong to traditional dress such as sheath, A-line, and mermaid. Let’s discuss the type one by one briefly. The ball gown silhouette is often called as a princess dress. It is called a princess dress because the dress is like what the princesses or queens in the past era or in a fairytale wear. Traditional ball gowns have sleeveless while the modern ones are usually strapless. Materials used to make ball gowns include, tulle, chiffon, satin, etc. For a more glamorous and elegant look, the dress is embellished with lace and beading.
Sometimes ball gowns are considered as too formal and too large. The simpler traditional dress wedding is sheath or column dress. It has a narrow and sleek silhouette yet still able to show off the wearer’s figure. Sheath dresses look good in either sleeved or strapless design. For sleeved dresses, the neckline can be V-neck, scoop-neck, halter-neck, etc. While ball gowns are usually worn for formal weddings, sheath dresses, due to their simplicity are perfect for any weddings from beach weddings to evening weddings. Another simple traditional bridal gown is A-line dress. It looks a lot like ball gown in a way that it also features a fitted bodice but the skirt is narrower and less voluminous. It is called A-line dress because the skirt forms a letter “A” shape. It is also versatile enough to be worn for a wide variety of wedding ceremonies.
You can also try a mermaid dress. From its name, the dress must have something to do with mermaid. It has a fitted bodice just like the aforementioned dresses but the skirt flares out at the bottom like a mermaid tail. This traditional dress wedding is considered as a sexy and sophisticated dress. It is usually worn for formal weddings. Mermaid dresses often have strapless sweetheart necklines and are embellished with tiers of organza and beadworks.
